PICK YOUR DEVICE

Where do you want to work?

TACTIX runs in any modern browser on every device below. On some of them you can also install it. Each option is explained here, including what is ready today.

Windows

Ready to install

A desktop program you install on your computer. Maps are ordinary .xmap files on your disk: no account, no internet needed. You can carry one on a USB stick and open it on another computer.

Needs
Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit

Windows may show an “unknown publisher” warning. The program is not code-signed yet; that warning does not mean the file is broken.

macOS

In preparation

The Mac package is not published yet. The desktop shell was rebuilt on a cross-platform foundation, so a Mac build comes from the same source — but nothing is ready to download today, and we would rather say that plainly than ship a broken file.

Today
Safari, Chrome or Edge — the full app, nothing missing
Planned
A signed .dmg for Apple silicon and Intel
Open in your browser

Linux

In preparation

No Linux package yet either. It comes from the same source as the Windows program, so it is a build step rather than a rewrite; it will appear here when it exists.

Today
Firefox or Chrome — the full app
Planned
AppImage and .deb, 64-bit
Open in your browser

Android

Works from the browser

There is no Play Store app, and you do not need one. Open TACTIX in Chrome, then choose “Add to Home screen” from the browser menu: it gets its own icon and opens without browser chrome, like an app.

Needs
Chrome, Edge or Samsung Internet

iPhone and iPad

Works from the browser

No App Store app either. In Safari, tap Share and then “Add to Home Screen”; TACTIX gets an icon on the home screen and opens full screen.

Important: Desktop and web do not sync automatically. You save your local document and import it into your web account or another computer when needed. Compare plans.

GET STARTED ON WINDOWS

Download, extract, open.

TACTIX is not an installer. It is a portable ZIP folder containing the complete application.

  1. 1
    Download the ZIP package

Save it somewhere easy to find on your computer.

  2. 2
    Extract the entire folder

Do not run the app from inside the ZIP; keep the complete folder structure together.

  3. 3
    Open TACTIX.exe

Create a new map or open an existing .xmap document.

QUICK HELP

What to know before downloading.

Short answers about the package, documents and device options.

Open the user guide →
Do I need an account?

No account is required to work with local .xmap documents on desktop. Browser access, sharing and teamwork require an account.

Can I use it without internet?

Yes. The Windows desktop app can open and edit local documents offline. The web version requires an internet connection.

Where are my files stored?

Desktop documents are stored as .xmap files in the folder you choose. Web maps are stored in server space linked to your account. These locations do not sync automatically.

Can I open legacy .tctx files?

Yes. The desktop app can open legacy .tctx documents. New documents use the current .xmap extension.

How do I use TACTIX on a phone or tablet?

Open it in a modern browser such as Safari, Chrome or Edge, then add it to your home screen. There is no separate native iOS or Android app.

How do I update to a new version?

Close TACTIX, download the latest ZIP package and extract it into a separate folder. Open TACTIX.exe from the new folder; your existing .xmap documents stay in their original locations.

What happens when I double-click an .xmap file?

TACTIX registers the file association with Windows when it opens. If Windows still asks for an application, choose “Select another app” and pick TACTIX.exe from the new folder.

What is the difference between ZIP and Lite?

The ZIP is a folder of files. Lite is one program you double-click. Both are the same TACTIX desktop app; neither needs installation.
